Sew Special!

Today Sugar Creek Hollow kicks off a new challenge, # 63 - Mixed Media!

I have been dying to play with my 'sewing' bits and bobs and thought this would be a perfect challenge to do so.

I started off by liberally applying Gesso to card and leaving it to dry thoroughly. I then die cut the dress form, scissors, sewing machine and cotton spool out of the Gesso board and distressed them a little with distress ink and applied silver paint to both the scissors, sewing machine and legs of the dress form, using my finger to spread it lightly. I love the way these pieces turned out, especially the scissors.
A close up of the sewing machine and 'silver' scissors.
The dress form needed a touch of 'pretty', so I gathered some lace and attached it to the bottom of the 'dress'. I die cut some tiny flowers, cupped them with an embossing tool and inserted a mini pearl into the centers and added them to the 'dress'.

The flowers were die cut and embossed with
an embossing tool and pearls added.

Of course I had to use a tag...lol, and found some Washi Tape 'measuring tape' and added that to the tag. I added some nice lace and tulle  to the side edge, under the 'measuring tape', to soften the look.

I already had some die cut 'pattern' flowers cut, so assembled the flower using tissue, pattern tissue, crinoline and tulle and added a jewel brad in the center to hold it together.

The flower was made up using pattern tissue,
pink tissue, tulle and crinoline.

I found some lovely buttons that I threaded with embroidery thread and adhered to the tag.
The sentiment was a freebie with a magazine and was perfect for this project.

The base of the card is bigger than I normally use because I wanted to add lots of elements, but did not want it to look too crowded. The lovely background paper is a sewing theme that fitted my scheme perfectly, so I distressed the edges and mounted it onto the card base.

Assembling it all was fun and I added some press studs, to all four corners and of course seam binding on the tag and under the flower.

I'm very pleased with the card and am more than pleased with the 'mixed media' lean.
I think I'm heading off in that direction for a while......

Listed below are my supplies used.
  • Docraft Papermania Bookprint paper pack
  • X-Cut A5 Die set - Haberdashery
  • Distress Ink - Vintage Photo
  • Distress Metallic Paint - Brushed Pewter

For My Birthday Boy!

Today my 'baby' turns 30!
Where have the years gone?

Still the same lovable, adorable 'baby', who is so good to his family. Loved by all, for his kindness and generosity, fun and caring and admired for his forthrightness and honesty.
He has grown into a man of strength and compassion who has made his parents very proud!

Happy birthday Alan. May you be blessed with good health and happiness and may all your dreams come true!

Alan loves 'wheels', always has, and I used 'cogs' and 'chrome' on his card to signify his likes.

The 'chrome' background was created by using the Cuttlebug embossing folder 'Diamond Plate' on Chromolux card.
The 'cogs' and 'arrow' dies are from the set from Sizzix called 'All about a Boy' # 659103.
This set is becoming a firm favorite for masculine cards.

I had to add '30' as it is a milestone age and I'm sure, a birthday he will remember for a long time to come!

Thank you for sharing my reminiscing and birthday post for my 'baby' and wishing you a lovely week!

I'll be back on Sunday with a new card. I'm having serious withdrawals as I have not had time to create new cards with bear and invitation orders to fulfill.  Will be back on track hopefully in another weeks time and I hope to get into some serious card making!

Thank you for popping in for a visit and enjoy your weekend!

Vintage Father's Day Card

Sugar Creek Hollow Challenge # 62 calls for Father's Day cards. This challenge runs for two weeks starting today, 1st June and we would love to have you join us by entering your creation.

For my card, I decided to go with the age old favorite for men, vintage cars and to include a tag in the layout.

The background paper was a scrap of a 'dictionary' script and I found the reverse of the page very suitable to use as well, so I split it, inked and distressed it. I covered the join with a strip of burlap type ribbon.
I went all out with inks on the tag and added a couple of subtle background stamps as well. The image is from a Darkroom Door set I have and I stamped it onto the tag and stamped again onto scrap, colored and cut it out and mounted over the stamped image on the tag, so that some of the background car showed through, creating a 3D effect. I die cut gears and arrows, inked and distressed them and mounted with a screw top brad, through the tag and attached the tag to the background card. The sentiment is computer generated, inked and distressed and also attached to the background with eyelets and I then attached it all to the card front using eyelets.

Supplies used on this card:
  • Darkroom Door DDRS033 Vintage Automobiles
  • Sizzix 659103 Thinlits - All About A Boy Dies
  • Compass Stamp - unknown
  • Distress Inks - Walnut Stain, Gathered Twig, Vintage Photo, Shabby Shutter
  • Memento Ink - Cocoa
This week on Sugar Creek Hollow, we have a Guest Designer Ragnhild Øren. She is an amazing artist with such a great eye for 'Vintage' and 'Shabby Chic' designs. Please do visit her blog and enjoy her lovely creations!

This weekend we have the wonderful Comrades Marathon being run from Durban to my home town, Pietermaritzburg. A road race of 90 kilometers, that is the ultimate test of endurance for so many from around the world. Our weather is particularly warm for this time of the year and for most it is going to be a very 'hot' run. My husband ran it 8 times, completing 7 of them. Something to be extremely proud of. Wishing all runners an enjoyable run and a glorious finish!

Have a wonderful week and I look forward to visiting your blogs to see your entries into this challenge!
Please pop in and visit my teamies - links in the sidebar, to see their amazing creations.

Thrilled to have you visit. Till next time....

Meet Harper!!

This is Harper who now lives in Cape Town!

Please click on the Moz Bearz tab above, to read all about this adorable baby bear!

Thanks for the visit!

Baby Card

This adorable card accompanied the equally adorable Harper to Cape Town this week. Take a look at the Moz Bearz page to read all about Harper.

I used new card stock - to me, anyway. It is super smooth and a lovely heavy weight with matching paper for the insert. It is called Masunga.

I delved into my scraps for all the patterned paper to tone in with the cute Hero Arts Teddy  that I colored with Copic's, to match sweet Harper.

The sentiment is from PTI and one of my favorites. The scallop is punched with an EK Success border punch and the circles cut with Nesties.

Thanks for the visit!

I have entered this card into the challenge # 20 Maybe Baby at the In The Pink Blog

Using Scraps and Stash

Sugar Creek Hollow's Challenge #61 is Scraps and Stash and the DT were asked to get 'Creative'.

For me, it meant that I was to find almost everything in a 'used' or 'left over' state and put them together in a project. I needed a Sympathy card so used this as a starting point, and also went looking for a sketch which I followed loosely.

The image was stamped in brown and I colored it in using Distress Inks and softened the starkness of the cream card with Antique Linen Distress Ink.

The background paper was just big enough for me to cut the square, with enough left over for me to use the flip side and punch the scallop edge, which I also distressed with ink, lightly. A scrap of lace just fitted across this border so I attached it and added a few pearls to the scallop centers.

I also found a Doily that had been pre-cut and used that behind the image, to partially show on the left side, as the right side was embellished with a die cut using the leftover strip of the mount card I had found. I used 4 metal corners, painted, out of my stash. The sentiment was stamped onto a pre-cut tag and distressed with ink to soften the starkness of the cream.
The inside of the card with a lovely
uplifting verse.

For me, this was a challenge that I tackled, determined not to break out anything new and was very chuffed with myself having achieved a pretty card, playing by the rules.

Please pop over to my teams blogs - links on the right of this post - and check out their creativity. I hope this inspires you to enter our challenge!

I am also entering my card into these challenges:
