Today Sugar Creek Hollow kicks off a new challenge, # 63 - Mixed Media!
I have been dying to play with my 'sewing' bits and bobs and thought this would be a perfect challenge to do so.
I started off by liberally applying Gesso to card and leaving it to dry thoroughly. I then die cut the dress form, scissors, sewing machine and cotton spool out of the Gesso board and distressed them a little with distress ink and applied silver paint to both the scissors, sewing machine and legs of the dress form, using my finger to spread it lightly. I love the way these pieces turned out, especially the scissors.
A close up of the sewing machine and 'silver' scissors. |
The dress form needed a touch of 'pretty', so I gathered some lace and attached it to the bottom of the 'dress'. I die cut some tiny flowers, cupped them with an embossing tool and inserted a mini pearl into the centers and added them to the 'dress'.
The flowers were die cut and embossed with an embossing tool and pearls added. |
Of course I had to use a tag...lol, and found some Washi Tape 'measuring tape' and added that to the tag. I added some nice lace and tulle to the side edge, under the 'measuring tape', to soften the look.
I already had some die cut 'pattern' flowers cut, so assembled the flower using tissue, pattern tissue, crinoline and tulle and added a jewel brad in the center to hold it together.
The flower was made up using pattern tissue, pink tissue, tulle and crinoline. |
I found some lovely buttons that I threaded with embroidery thread and adhered to the tag.
The sentiment was a freebie with a magazine and was perfect for this project.
The base of the card is bigger than I normally use because I wanted to add lots of elements, but did not want it to look too crowded. The lovely background paper is a sewing theme that fitted my scheme perfectly, so I distressed the edges and mounted it onto the card base.
Assembling it all was fun and I added some press studs, to all four corners and of course seam binding on the tag and under the flower.
I'm very pleased with the card and am more than pleased with the 'mixed media' lean.
I think I'm heading off in that direction for a while......
